The Benefits of Niacinamide

Written By: Kelsie Matthews, L.E.

What is it?

The benefits of niacinamide are many. Niacinamide is an ingredient derived from vitamin B3 that is used in many skincare products to help rejuvenate the skin and fight aging factors. Niacinamide is a water soluble vitamin that helps increase the barrier function of the skin, as well as protect it from environmental damage. It is most often found in moisturizers, “anti-aging” serums, and antioxidant serums. It is a well tolerated ingredient, so it is safe for sensitive skin, rosacea, melasma, and acne-prone skin. It is also a stable ingredient, so it can be combined with many other products such as vitamin C, retinols, and AHA/BHAs.

How is it used?

Niacinamide is such a versatile ingredient that it can be incorporated into any routine. It is one of those ingredients that can be used in multiple steps of your skincare routine and still not over-sensitize your skin. It is best to use twice daily after cleansing your skin. Another good thing about niacinamide is that it can be used on any body area as well, which can help prevent dryness and improve the skin’s overall integrity.

What are the benefits?

  • Increased barrier function
