DiamondGlow VS. Hydrafacial: “Same, same, but different.”

DiamondGlow and HydraFacial – both great treatments…which is right for me?

By Julia Westbrook, L.E.

Ready, Set, GLOW! You glow girl! GLOW UP! There’s a reason why there are so many “glow” slogans, it’s because EVERYONE wants to GLOW! When I’m asked, “What’s the best ‘Event-Ready’ treatment?” or “What can I do with minimal to no downtime and still receive an effective treatment?” my mind directly goes to DiamondGlow or Hydrafacial! These hydradermabrasion treatments have grown to replace the traditional microdermabrasion, as they offer similar results but offer so much more!

Now, what’s the difference and how are they the same? How do you decide which one is best for you or can you benefit from both?

The Allergan patented DiamondGlow is an advanced skin resurfacing treatment that simultaneously exfoliates, extracts and infuses a condition targeted selection of serums onto the skin. This non-invasive “event-ready” treatment is fully customizable and the perfect treatment to address a variety of skin concerns and is suitable for all skin types and conditions. You will walk out of the office with your skin feeling and looking hydrated, bright and glowing and you’ll be absolutely hooked on this treatment! The custom features of this treatment include an assortment of 5 diamond tips, ranging from zero grit to treat right around the eyes and lips (I love this factor as those areas rarely are treated in most skin treatments!) to gentle grits and up to a gritty grit to treat rough, thick skin. The skincare professional will consult with the patient on their concerns to properly choose which SkinMedica Pro-Infusion Serum is best for them. There’s a serum for everyone! The most universal serum and the one I, personally, like to use on every single patient, is the SkinMedica Ultra Hydrating Serum, because let’s be honest, who can’t benefit from some extra hydration?! The SkinMedica Vitamin C Serum provides an infusion of everyone’s favorite antioxidant (Vit. C), leaving the skin protected inside and out, working to create a stronger skin barrier function. If discoloration, uneven dull skin tone is your concern, the SkinMedica Brightening serum will lighten and brighten. I saved my favorite for last, the SkinMedica Pore Clarifying serum is the go-to for acne prone patients, this salicylic acid-based serum provides gentle exfoliation and extractions, the perfect combo for this skin concern.

Hydrafacial pioneered the hydradermabrasion game, using patented technology to cleanse, exfoliate and hydrate the skin. This multi-step treatment loosens and unclogs pores, gently exfoliates impurities and dead skin cells while replenishing the skin with vital nutrients. The steps and what the Hydrafacial has to offer are as follows; after the skincare professional consults with the patient and knows what their skin concerns and goals are, the proper protocol is performed and the treatment can be customized with boosters! The first step of the Hydrafacial is cleansing with the Hydrafacial patented “active 4” serum, next, Glysal Prep (a Glycolic Acid) is used to uncover a new layer of skin through exfoliation and non-invasive resurfacing. Debris is then extracted from the pores by painless suction using BetaHD, the skin will then be nourished with intense moisturizers, antioxidants and peptides through the infusion of Antiox Serum. Hydrafacial offers booster options to take the treatment up another notch, the Growth Factor(!!) helps diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. For discoloration, the BrightAlive Boost is used to brighten the skin tone, diminish hyperpigmentation and offer an instantly satisfying GLOW! DermaBuilder addresses multiple common concerns, this patented blend of peptides effectively treats fine lines, skin tone unevenness and texture. Last but not least, the Britenol boost is clinically proven to specifically target dark spots and sun damaged areas, leaving the skin with a more even, glowing complexion.

Now, how to decide which treatment is best for you? While they are very similar, if you are wanting the extra exfoliation, the DiamondGlow is best for you. A little bonus that accompanies this treatment is it’s an Allergan product, meaning, the customer can receive points with the Brilliant Distinctions program. Every time you purchase a DiamondGlow treatment, points are received, and those points turn into Allergan gifted money for further treatments and services! So that could be something to take into consideration when looking for the best “bang for your buck” treatment.

The Hydrafacial and DiamondGlow both improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, dull and congested skin, roughness and dryness, dark spots and discoloration. In all, both treatments will leave your skin feeling squeaky-clean, like you went from dehydrated to re-hydrated, smoother than a baby’s bottom, and brighter and the sun.
