My Experience Getting Filler & Botox

Since I have been in the Aesthetics industry, I have gotten Botox and Filler a few times. Although I am only in my 20s, I wanted to get a head start on the aging process. Being so young and not knowing that much about injectables at that point in my life, I was hesitant just like many people are when they decide to try them out. I was confident in our injectors skills, however still worried about the discomfort that typically comes with any procedure involving needles.

To start with, I got a little bit of lip filler done. Here at our MedSpa, the area being treated with filler gets numbed with very strong numbing cream for 15-30 minutes. And let me tell you, that stuff WORKS. Of course there is a little bit of a pinching feeling in some areas of the lips, but it was nearly painless, and way easier than I ever expected it to be. Another great thing about our injectors, is that they have lots of tricks to make you comfortable like using a facial vibrator to help distract from the needle going into the injection site.

Like many people out there, I was nervous and wanted to start with only half of a syringe of Juvederm Ultra. Immediately after the injection, my lips looked great. A couple weeks later when the initial swelling went down, I knew I wanted more. I learned that one syringe of filler is only ⅕ of a teaspoon of product…my mind was blown. I definitely thought that a full syringe was way more than that. Once it was okay to do so, I got more filler in my lips and I absolutely loved them.

Immediately after the appointment once the numbing cream wore off, my lips were a little sore and swollen. Most of the noticeable swelling lasted about 3 or 4 days, but they were true to size at about day 14. For me, the filler lasts about a year, but I also don’t have a super fast metabolism. I like to use the SkinMedica HA5 on my lips to keep them extra plump and hydrated after I get my filler done.

After dabbling in filler, I wanted to try Botox to see what all the hype was about. Once again, I was scared of the needles and multiple places they would need to inject. Sure enough, it was a breeze. Botox is not a procedure that requires numbing cream because it is so quick and easy. For my first time, I got the Botox in my glabella (the “11’s”) and a lip flip. I absolutely loved the results I got from both of them. My forehead was the smoothest it had ever been, and my lips looked a little more plumped up than before. Another thing I noticed after getting the treatment was that my breakouts and oil on my forehead pretty much went away. Although that’s not what Botox is intended for, it was just an added bonus that helped my skin.

With all this being said, my advice to anyone out there that is nervous about entering the “injectable” world is to not be scared. No, it’s not as fun as getting a facial done, but it is so worth going through the little bit of “pain”. As far as getting Botox and filler so young, I’m so glad I started it so soon. It is such a great treatment for preventing fine lines and wrinkles, and keeping your skin looking young and healthy. Doing these little things now will hopefully help me avoid feeling the need to go under the knife one day when I’m much older and my skin starts to sag. Overall, my experience with getting injectables has been great so far, and I definitely plan on getting them again in the future!
