PRP Hair Restoration

Hair loss affects 50 million men and 30 million women in the U.S. This is a common problem as we age, however, hair loss may start as early as puberty for some people! The causes of hair loss range, from genetic, hormonal, environmental, nutritional, emotional, and inflammatory. Treatment for hair loss depends on the cause. For example, if it is due to stress, then try to reduce it! Most of the time, it is not that simple and requires treatments that are limited to medications and surgery. Medications can be daunting, for they have to be taken orally once a day or applied topically once to twice per day. Surgery can also be frustrating, for it is not 100% effective and requires downtime! This is where PRP injections come into play!

PRP is something you’ve probably heard of utilized in various trends like the Vampire facial, but it can also be used to treat hair loss! PRP stands for platelet rich plasma, and it is directly injected into the scalp to stimulate hair follicles. So why does this work so well? Platelets contain growth factors, cytokines, and proteins that stimulate the growth of hair. The protocol includes 3-4 treatments at 1 month intervals initially, followed by 1 treatment every 4-6 months thereafter for maintenance. Keep in mind, you will not notice results overnight. This is because the hair-growth cycles are long, as well as not all hairs being part of the same cycle! This is a process, and one should expect realistic improvement by 12 months.
