It’s that time of year again… It’s laser facial season! The days are shorter and we are further from the sun. Most of us won’t be tanning on the beach or the boat in the next few months. It’s the perfect time to resurface, renew, and bake some new collagen. And pumpkin banana bread while we are at it.
Laser facials are amazing skin multitaskers. They address surface issues such as dark spots (hello, lake time), fine lines, and texture issues. They also build collagen. A laser facial can reach the deeper layer of the skin and “instruct” your skin to produce more collagen. Did you know that firm, smooth skin is actually a reflection of the collagen you have in your skin? It’s always a good idea to tell your skin to make more. It is defiantly laser facial season!
There a few different types of “laser facials” but when we use this term, we are usually referring to a treatment with Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) or Broad Band Light (BBL). Both procedures send pulses of light deep into the skin to energize the cells, stimulate collagen production, shrink tiny surface blood vessels, and rid the skin of unwanted pigment such as age spots.
One treatment is usually not enough if there is something to be “fixed” such as age spots, unwanted freckles, visible blood vessels, redness, or fine lines and wrinkles. A series of 3 treatments spaced a week or two apart is usually good and will help even out the skin tone, shrink vessels, and promote healthy cells. Collagen production is stimulated and the effects of that will be seen over time.
For best results, schedule as soon as possible to have your skin smooth and holiday photo ready.
Here is a recipe to help you kick off the holiday season right!
