What is PRP?

By Katie Ladner L.E.

“What is PRP?” you may ask. It stands for platelet rich plasma. To obtain it, the patient’s own blood is drawn, placed into a centrifuge and spun to isolate the platelets. The plasma, which contains the platelets, then is used and can be microneedled or injected into the skin. The best thing about it is that it is your body’s own cells so there is no risk of a rejection and the chance for a negative reaction is low. Platelet rich plasma does contain proteins and growth factors to help activate and regulate cell migration and stimulate cellular production of collagen and elastin.

Why should I get PRP with microneedling?

PRP
Platelet rich plasma is great for skin and hair health

We all know that microneedling is amazing to help the tone and texture of your skin, but adding platelet rich plasma is like giving your skin a boost when the microneedling is performed. Studies have actually shown that this substance can increase the healing process, reduce pigment and help acne scarring.

Microneedling with PRP can help with…
Acne Scarring
Pigmentation
Hair loss
Aging skin
Sun damage
Large pores
Surgical scars
Rough texture
Fine lines

The skin is numbed with a prescription strength numbing cream before microneedling, so there is little to no discomfort. The benefits of microneedling increase greatly when PRP is added.
A quick blood draw and spin and you will have fresh platelets ready to be used in combination with microneedling or other procedures. Or it can be injected into the skin to help stimulate healing and collagen production or into the scalp to help stimulate hair follicle health and hair growth.

Our experienced injectors and estheticians at L Aesthetics and Longevity in the Austin area are happy to discuss PRP if you have any questions. They are skilled at drawing blood and at using the PRP to help you meet your aesthetic goals.
